Jodi Henderson

Jodi Henderson is a leading authority in the fight against human trafficking and modern slavery. As the founding Editor in Chief of the Journal of Modern Slavery, Jodi has been instrumental in advancing the discourse and research on these critical issues. In her role as Executive Director of SlaveFree Today, Jodi has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at combating modern slavery and supporting survivors. With extensive experience in both academia and advocacy, Jodi has participated in high-profile symposia and forums worldwide, including those held in The Hague and at the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights. Her expertise and insights have made significant contributions to global conversations on human rights and ethical practices. In addition to her editorial and directorial roles, she co-edited the influential book Slavery and Its Consequences, further establishing her commitment to illuminating the complexities and ramifications of modern slavery. Through her ongoing work, Jodi continues to drive meaningful change and inspire action toward a more just and equitable world.

Ely Diaz-Gonzalez {Board Chair}

Ely was born in Maiquetia, Venezuela. She graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration geared toward the tourism industry. After university, she worked for a contractor at the American Embassy in Caracas and spent a decade working for cruise lines and airlines. She moved to the United States in 2003. Ely is multilingual; fluent in spanish and english, with a working understanding of portuguese, italian, and french. She is a certified Upper Elementary Montessori teacher and teaches spanish as a second language. Ely is passionate about empowering vulnerable people and making a positive impact on everyone she meets. She is honored to serve on the board of SlaveFree Today.

Daniel W. Reese {Director of Finances}

Director of Finances Dan Reese has a lifetime of successful work in the for profit and not-for-profit communities, most recently serving as the CFO and COO for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial fund. During his nearly seven year tenure he raised over 75 million in direct and in-kind donations while earning four national awards for Public Service Announcement production and growing VVMF’s online presence dramatically. He has led fundraising for the National Council for Adoption and was for seven years managing Director of the Business Alliance for Vietnamese Education, managing the writing and printing of 20 million English textbooks while securing American English as the First Foreign language for Vietnam. Prior to his not-for-profit work Dan had a successful career in banking, rising to Senior Vice President for Shawmut Bank, and in Connecticut State Government, where he was featured twice in the Connecticut Section of the New York Times for securing funds while working for Connecticut Governor Ella T Grasso. Dan holds a Masters in Business from Columbia University and a BS in Political Science from Trinity College in Hartford. He is married with six children, thirteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren..

Pete Zimowski {Chief Operating Officer}

Designs, maintains, and manages new content for the SlaveFree Today website and is the Technical Editor and digital publisher of the Journal of Modern Slavery. Founding officer and member of the No Human Trafficking and Slavery Today NGOs. Graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and after a career in the USAF and as Captain at a major worldwide airline, he continues to fly for a charter company in the northeastern US.

Cynthia Gill-Wall {Board Treasurer}

Cynthia holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from Columbus State University. In addition to working in public administration and private businesses, she has served on numerous nonprofit boards including Troup County Humane Society, Babies on Natural Diets, and The Children’s House at Serenbe, among others. Mother to 4 biological kids and untold numbers of others, she currently resides in Newnan GA with too many cats, too little space and hair color subject to change, where she cares for elderly parents and spends lots of time managing everyone’s life.

Rebecca Knight {Board Secretary}

Rebecca Knight is a Montessori teacher, a 2013 graduate of Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Education. Her hobbies include knitting and crocheting, reading, and spending time with her Fiancé and five rescue dogs. She recently became aware of SlaveFree Today and the Journal of Modern Slavery and strongly believes that this is a cause worth being a part of. She feels it is important for people to be aware of what is happening in the world around them and to help in any way possible to make the world a better place for all. She’s excited to be a part of this conversation and to help in any way that she can to further the discussion and to make a change.

Roger Trueba {Board Member}

Roger is a graduate of Georgia State University with a dual degree in Business and Political Science with a concentration in Organizational Development. His background in working with leadership programs began in Latin America and eventually led him to Atlanta where he worked for Delta Air Lines for over 18 years. He helped expand the company throughout Latin America and Asia, sourcing top-tier talent by leading the training and development of Delta’s international teams. At Delta he was also the President of the Hispanic Employee Resource Group and assisted in expanding programming for other ERGs in corporations around the state, partnering with local Atlanta non-profits to expand successful leadership programs for high school and college students. He is currently the Chairman of the Board for the Hispanic Organization Promoting Education (HOPE), a Georgia Non-Profit and is on the Board of Advisors of Perimeter College. Roger is currently the Director of Development for HR Strategies.

Carol Scott {Board Member}

Dr. Scott has been an observer, student, and teacher of human development and early learning since 1977. She earned her MA in early childhood education and PhD in developmental and child psychology, both at the University of Kansas, where she learned from and was mentored by internationally-respected leaders in the study of human behavior, child development, early education, and psychology. She has worked directly with hundreds of children and adults from the varied perspectives of teacher, teacher educator, administrator, presenter, and consultant. Her work history includes experience in preschools, child care resource and referral, Head Start, and public school. She is a past-director of the Metropolitan Council on Early Learning in Kansas City, former CEO for Child Care Aware of Missouri, and past-president of the board of directors for Child Care Aware of America.
